2018 Brun Doré
2018 Brun Doré
A real one-off cuvee, a little botrytised fruit that a neighbour had going spare, rows of Pinot Beurot pressed to barrel and fermented slowly over a year. Named after the song Golden Brown - check the colour!
Cuvée: Brun Doré
Grapes/Blend: Pinot Beurot
Vintage: 2018
Winemaking: "In 2018 my neighbour to the Bois Prevot vineyard had so many grapes she was over the allowed yield, so she called my mum to ask if I’d like to use some. But my mum forgot to tell me… so I was working in the Bois Prevot, and was really surprised that Chantelle hadn’t picked all these rows of her Pinot Douro siting there getting super ripe. I mentioned it to my mum, off-hand and she had her eyes wide open: “I completely forgot to tell you that you could take them!”
“We thought it would be too late to use them, but they were in a really great condition, no bad rot, a little botrytis here and there. 2018 was hot and dry, so we were safe for mildew. We picked what we could take, pressed it to barrel and let it ferment slowly for over a year. We eventually bottled it with about 30g residual sugar, so bottled it with crown caps as we decided to leave it with the gas from fermentation, so its not too sticky and heavy. A real one-shot cuvee!” - Morgane
