2020/21 VDF - Transendance
2020/21 VDF - Transendance
A very special wine dedicated to - and labeled by - Béa's brother, a trans man who works to support the transgender community. A portion of the proceeds from the wine will go to a charity supporting the transgender community.
Cuvée: Transendance
Style: Still
Colour: Red
Grapes/Blend: Cab Franc
ABV: 11%
Vintage: 2020/21
Winemaking: From two vintages, all fruit hand-harvested. The 2020 portion was selected from vines 70-90 years old, de-stemmed and macerated for 1 month, basket pressed to barrel to rest for 18 months. The 2021 portion was selected from the younger vines (30-40 years old), macerated whole bunch for two weeks and then aged in tank for 6 months, before assembling the two in tank for a further 6 months. All movements by gravity, no additions.
A wine dedicated to - and labeled by - Béa's brother, a trans man who works to support the transgender community. In Béa's words: "We're all made from the same flesh, and I wanted to illustrate this by making a wine bringing together two different methods: at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if it's destemmed and in wood or whole bunch in steel: it's all wine!"
Sulphur: None added
Soil: Sandy gravel with alluvial deposits over clay and limestone.
Beatriz, born in Colombia and Étienne, born near Calais; met whilst living in Spain and have taken quite the long-route round to their new home and life as winemakers in Chinon. They are now the custodians of 4 hectares of old Cabernet Franc vines alongside the river Vienne, planted on sandy gravel over clay and limestone. They are working with biodynamic principles, interfering as little as possible. Their first vintage was sulphur-free, and they hope to continue the standard.
