2019 VDF - Fragile V2
2019 VDF - Fragile V2
A rare one-off, having kept an extra barrel aside for further ageing. Fuller bodied than the regular Fragile.
Cuvée: Fragile
Style: Still
Colour: White
Grapes/Blend: Chenin
ABV: 13.9%
Vintage: 2019
Winemaking: Fragile is the last pick of their Chenin Blanc parcels pressed directly to barrel for fermentation and ageing. The V2 differs from V1 in that it was a barrel that did not ferment completely, they waited for it to finish. By 2021 it still had 3 grams of residual sugar but was tasting delicious, they decided to bottle it in May.
Soil: Subsoil: schist / Soil: sand and clay
Yield: 30 to 35 hl/ha
The seeds of La Grange aux Belles were planted in 2004 when Marc Houtin gave up a career in the oil industry to follow a passion for wine. He purchased a dozen hectares on the slopes of the Aubance river in Anjou. In 2008 Marc invited Julien Bresteau to join the Domaine and La Grange Aux Belles was born. Today the 14ha estate has Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pineau d'Aunis, Gamay, Grolleau and Chenin Blanc, farmed organically of course, using herbal infusions against mildew and vinified with minimal sulphur use.
