2019 VDF - Sa Fille
The fourth release from Ferg is a welcome tonic to short days and long nights, a bright, generous red that happily takes a chill and works fast to bring you a restorative dose of their southern French sunshine.
Cuvée: Sa Fille
Style: Still
Colour: Red
Grapes/Blend: Grenache
ABV: 13%
Vintage: 2019
Winemaking: With lots of Ferg’s old vine Grenache scorched in the sun, and with a potential alcohol of 15%, he headed down the hill to the Moulin Fréres to pick a little of their younger vine Grenache, at a potential alcohol of 11%. Fermented separately but following the same method, a 10 days whole-bunch carbonic maceration before basket pressing. The Moulin brothers’ Grenache completed fermentation in just 10 days. The old vine Grenache spent the winter in barriques- taking a long while to finish it’s sugars. Eventually they were brought together.
As Ferg says: “It has a lovely tension, great acidity, but also that big, round, fruity old-vine Grenache, balanced with that super crunchy freshness. Great as an aperitif, slightly chilled. It’s really great with all of those spicy, middle eastern grills I like to cook. It's a fresh one!”
Sulphur: 2.5mg/l added
