2020 AOC Cahors - Les Calades
2020 AOC Cahors - Les Calades
Deep, dark Malbec. No oak here but the fruit and tannin do a lot of heavy lifting together. Still with the underlying acidity and energy that makes it easy to empty a bottle quickly.
Cuvée: Les Calades
Style: Still
Colour: Red
Grapes/Blend: Malbec
Vintage: 2020
Winemaking: Fermented in the “mille-feuille” style: a 40cm layer of whole bunches, topped with a 40cm layer of destemmed grapes, followed in this pattern until the 50 hl concrete tank is full. Pressed after fermentation and back to concrete for ageing.
Soil: Stony clay & limestone
After a career as a sommelier in Paris, Laurent Marre returned back home to Cahors and now bio-dynamically farms 6ha of Merlot and Malbec with his wife Nathalie. The objective is to keep the soil alive by using natural fertilizers (horse and cow dung, crushed branches, etc). They also use draft horses to maintain the vineyard.
