The thrilling wines of Yann Durrmann are back!
To celebrate: on Monday 27th February, we'll be stationed upstairs for a few hours at Ducksoup, Soho; pouring all the new arrivals. Drop us a message below to book in to taste.
First up is a re-stock of favourites from the 2021 vintage, along with a new cuvee 'Assemblage' - a litre-bottled negocé version of the Eden Edelzwicker, full details on everything available now below.
Yann has been heading up the family domaine since 2018, taking an already groundbreaking Alsatian family who were dedicated to organic farming and indigenous fermentations one step further into unfiltered, zero sulphur winemaking.
The entire range, even the soon to be released Grand Cru cuvees now sees no additions.
Yann's work is committed to expressing his varied terroir scattered over 30 small parcels around the village, where possible vinfying parcel by parcel, bottling varieties according to their soil type and location. To drink the entire Durrmann range is to glean a profound insight into the terroir of Andlau.
We caught up with Yann to recap the arrivals:

NEW 2021 - Assemblage - Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer
"2021 was incredibly wet in Andlau, we lost so much fruit to mildew in 2021. I had to purchase some grapes from some organic neighbours to make sure I could produce as much as I would like. Assemblage is a negocé version my Eden Edelzwicker, but I wanted to change the name and label to make sure I wasn't misleading people, as of course, it's not the same wine!"
"Otherwise it's made the same, pressed slowly to tanks, fermented separately and blended shortly before bottling."
2021 - Pinot Blanc Nature - Pinot Blanc
"A 50/50 blend of Pinot Blanc on Schist for acidity and structure, and Auxerrois on grés for aromatics and fruit, both pressed gently over 6 hours and fermented in tank."
2021 - Zegwur - Gewurztraminer
"I lost lots of my Gewurztraminer grown on granite, so for the first time Zegwur is a blend of parcels on both granite and grés. 25% of the Gewurz macerates de-stemmed until the end of fermentation, the rest is pressed over 6 hours. The granite would usually amp up the floral aromatics, but with sandstone bringing 50% of the fruit this year, we have much more tropical fruit, and aromatic citrus."
NEW 2021 - Riesling sur Schist - Riesling
"The Rabari parcel is pretty steep, planted over schist, which gives a really driving, mineral Riesling, pressed over 10 hours to stainless steel, fermented and aged in tank. If anybody still has any, it's always fascinating to try the sur Grés, sur Granit and sur Schist Rieslings with each other to see the terroir influence."

2021 - Krax - Riesling
"Another change for 2021! Normally everything for this comes from an area known as the Crax. I had to add fruit from another vineyard planted over grés, not in the Crax, so I decided to change the name slightly so people knew it was not truly the same. Still 100% Riesling on grés macerated for 3 weeks, de-stemmed."
PINK
2021 - Rose Nature - Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris
"With yields down in my Pinot Noir parcels, and lots not suitable for a maceration, this 2021 is a 50:50 blend of direct-pressed Pinot Noir and some 7-day macerated Pinot Gris, de-stemmed. It's fun and different, I've really enjoyed it."
RED
2021 - Pinot Noir Nature - Pinot Noir
"This year whatever Pinot I had left that was suitable for maceration all went into the one cuvee, so it has both my plots over clay and pink sandstone, as well as the ones from a steep slope over schist, with very low yields. Otherwise it's made the same, de-stemmed and macerated for 4 weeks in tank."
