Mataburro 2022

MATABURRO - MELISSA INGRAND & LAURENT ROGER
FRANCE, PERPIGNAN, RIVESALTES

After a little rest over summer, we’re thrilled to release the 2022 vintage from Laurent & Melissa at Mataburro.

Despite a difficult, dry vintage in Rivesaltes in 2022 - less than 350ml of rainfall in total - good rains at the crucial point before harvest has lent the wines a real lift, and are as fresh as Laurent & Melissa would like!

As always, work in the vines is minimal, with no ploughing and an increase in cover crops and green manure to help the soil temperature in recent years as the climate continues to warm. In addition to the three hectares of Laurent’s family vines - plantings of Grenache and Merlot mostly clay on limestone - they now farm a small 70-year-old parcel of Macabeu by the river on alluvial soils, and another of 70-year old Mourvedre on a small hill, over black schist.

In the cellar, the processes have remained the same: short, whole bunch macerations are pressed very gently and raised mainly in steel and fibreglass, with an amphora and barrels reserved for TOTEM.

We have the following wines available now in very small quantities:

An Evening with Ham Street at Isca

We're thrilled to announce that on July 1st, Lucie from Ham Street will be travelling up North for an evening with our friends Isca as we pour wines from Ham Street and our other UK growers.

The team at Isca have been putting a wonderful amount of energy and effort into championing English winemaking and viticulture, a huge vote of confidence for a budding scene from a team whose opinion we hold in high regard. They've been following the work of Lucie & Jules for quite a while, and we're delighted that they can finally welcome Lucie to Manchester for an evening of wine, food and conversation.

Reservations are recommended, walk-ins are welcomed. You can book now here, via Isca.
