2019 Wild Juice Chase
2019 Wild Juice Chase
A fizzy cherry bomb from a practically wild vineyard in Hampshire. Dan manages to make the best Triomphe we have ever tasted.
Cuvée: Wild Juice Chase
Style: Sparkling
Colour: Red
Grapes/Blend: Triomphe d’Alsace
ABV: 10.4%
Vintage: 2019
Winemaking: Hand-harvested, carbonic maceration in stainless steel vat for five days. Gentle pressing, left to ferment for a further eight days. Bottled via gravity, with a small amount of natural sugar remaining to finish fermentation. Hand-disgorged to remove the heaviest deposits. Grapes come from a small plot of 35-year-old vines grown on clay over chalk in the Test Valley, Hampshire. A relaxed, lutte raisonée management approach is adopted and the vines grow with little human manipulation.
Sulphur: None added
Soil: Clay over chalk
Offbeat wines is the inspiring project started by Daniel Ham in 2018. Using organic fruit from vineyards in Hampshire and Devon. Joined by his wife Nicola in their own cellar in 2020, these former marine biologists are about as close as you will get to garage winemaking in the UK. Wines are made with no additions and are among the most exciting being made in England.
